Investments

KCM has invested over USD 150 million in CSR since 2005 and, under new company structures, commits around USD 20 million annually to community investment

KCM invests in education from early childhood to tertiary levels, including: provision of computers to schools; construction of classrooms and school infrastructure; scholarships for students in mining, medicine, business and other fields; support for vocational training through Kitwe Trades School; and early learning centres for children. This enhances access to quality education in communities around its operations.

Health is a major investment area, with KCM operating 2 hospitals and 14 clinics that serve tens of thousands annually. KCM has a largest Roll-Back Malaria Programmes in Zambia protecting about 337,500 community members with a USD 1.2 million investment.

KCM’s sustainable livelihoods programmes focus on community self‑sustenance beyond mining, including youth and women skills training (e.g., tailoring, livestock rearing, leather production), safe water systems, and environmental sustainability (e.g., tree planting) to strengthen community resilience and quality of life.

Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) is driving community development through sport, supporting 28 clubs engaged in football, rugby, tennis, bowling, darts, golf, athletics and cricket and engaging over 3,250 beneficiaries across its operational areas. To date, KCM has invested over USD 5,734,301 in sports initiatives, providing platforms for youth and women to develop their skills, promote healthy lifestyles, and foster teamwork.

KCM sponsors cultural events traditional ceremonies such as Ncwala, Likumbi lya Mize, the Ngoma Awards, SunFM Awards reinforcing support for arts, talent development, and cultural heritage.

KCM has invested in community infrastructure, including roads (USD 8.1 million) and solar projects (USD 260,000).
